Now Recruiting: Volunteers Needed to Help Build a Safer, More Connected Community

IWAV is inviting community members from across the Southern Gulf Islands to join our growing team of volunteers. Whether you have a few hours a month or more time to give, there’s a place for you at IWAV.

From tending gardens and caring for children to supporting events and standing with survivors, IWAV’s volunteer opportunities reflect the strength and diversity of our community. Each role helps create the safety, stability, and healing that individuals and families affected by violence and abuse need to move forward.

With current funding shortfalls and growing waitlists, volunteers are more essential than ever. Their time and care make it possible to provide practical support with compassion and dignity—whether through sorting donations at Transitions Thrift Store or making it possible for a parent to access counselling. Every volunteer helps us reach more people who are waiting for support and hope.

Current volunteer roles include:

  • Supporting customers and sorting donations at our Transitions Thrift Store
  • Providing play-based care for children while caregivers access services
  • Being on-call to support survivors of sexual assault in partnership with trained nurses
  • Helping with gardening and landscaping at IWAV’s housing sites
  • Assisting with events, outreach, and awareness campaigns

All volunteers receive orientation, training, and ongoing support in a trauma-informed environment. Volunteering is a meaningful way to build community, develop new skills, and contribute to real change.
