You’re Invited to the December 6 Memorial Ceremony

Every December 6th, Canadians recognize the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women. We will gather in community to light candles and remember the women who were killed in the 1989 École Polytechnique massacre and all other women and girls whose lives were taken by femicide in 2024.

Where: Gazebo in Centennial Park
Date: Friday, December 6th
Time: 5:00pm

Violence due to systemic oppression is the reality for so many and continues to be a real threat to the survival and well-being of women and children across the nation. During the ceremony, we hold space and recognize all of the women and girls, inclusive of cis, gender non-confirming and trans women and girls whose names are not known.

We will recognize the following: those whose lives have been lost as victims of violence; the murdered and missing Indigenous women and girls; the survivors of violence and abuse and sexual assault; the women and girls who are black, Indigenous, and people of colour who are impacted by the lives of systemic violence; and those in the LGBTQ2S+ community who have experienced violence and abuse.

Join in community to renew our strength, honour the lives of women, and hope for more inclusive and peaceful communities. This year on Salt Spring Island, IWAV and The Circle will be co-hosting the Memorial Ceremony.
