Islanders Working Against Violence (IWAV) is seeking passionate, community-minded individuals to join our volunteer Board of Directors.
IWAV provides comprehensive, trauma-informed services to women, children, and non-binary individuals across the Southern Gulf Islands who are impacted by violence, abuse, and poverty. Our programs include a 24-hour crisis line, emergency transition housing, second-stage housing, outreach and advocacy services, and professional counseling. We also manage a 74-unit affordable housing complex and recently completed a successful community campaign to purchase land for future affordable housing development.
Our vision is simple and powerful: “We envision people living free from poverty, violence, and abuse.”
We are looking to strengthen and diversify our Board as we enter an exciting phase of growth. Our current volunteer Board is active, dedicated, and goal oriented. Members work collaboratively to provide strong governance, strategic direction, and community leadership. The time commitment is approximately 4–6 hours per month, including board meetings and occasional committee work
We welcome skills and/or expertise in any of the following areas:
* Fundraising and donor development
* Financial management or accounting
* Housing development, planning, or capital projects
* Non-profit governance or strategic planning
IWAV is committed to building a Board that reflects the diversity of the communities we serve. We strongly encourage applications from Indigenous community members, people from culturally diverse backgrounds, ages and abilities, and individuals who identify as 2SLGBTQ+. Lived experience with poverty or violence and community connection are deeply valued alongside professional skills.
Serving on the IWAV Board is an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to safer communities across the Southern Gulf Islands. As a Board member, you will help steward vital services, support innovative housing solutions, and ensure that some of the most vulnerable members of our community have access to safety, dignity, and hope.
If you believe in a future where everyone can live free from violence and poverty, we would love to hear from you.
If you’re interested but new to board service, we welcome your curiosity and invite you to connect.
